Expat fined OMR 3,000 in Oman

Muscat: An expatriate worker, who was found selling chewing tobacco illegally, will have to pay a hefty fine for the offence.

The Consumer Prosecution Authority said in a statement: “Masirah Court of First Instance recently issued a judicial ruling against the violator of the Consumer Protection Law and imposed a conviction and fine estimated at OMR 3,000 along with confiscation of chewing tobacco."

"Judicial control officers in the Masirah office were able, while carrying out the inspection campaigns to control the markets, to arrest an expatriate worker selling non-smoked chewing tobacco, which is in violation of Resolution No. (256/2015), which bans the circulation of chewing tobacco."

The case was handed over to Public Prosecution who took it to court.
