Muscat: People from the South Asian countries who are unable to come back to Oman because of ongoing entry bans hope those who are fully vaccinated will soon be able to board flights to Muscat.
Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, Oman has banned the entry of passengers flying from 15 countries, including India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. With many nationals from these countries employed in Oman, however, they are hopeful of returning soon, particularly after being fully vaccinated.
“Kindly resume flight services between Oman, at least for vaccinated people and residents,” said Indian citizen Deepshikha, taking to Twitter to voice her concerns.
Sayyed Asif Hussain also had a similar request, “Please at least announce flights from India to Oman that will resume on any one date. We are waiting to return and join work.”
Bansari Mehta, another Indian, said, “When will Oman flights resume? We are waiting to visit Oman as my husband lives there.”
A similar sentiment was echoed by Pakistani expatriate Ejaz Khan, who requested his ambassador to Oman to take efforts to allow people to once again board flights. “Myself and many Pakistanis are stuck in Pakistan due to COVID-19 restrictions by Oman and a ban on flights,” he said. “Many in Pakistan have been vaccinated and case rates have decreased.”
Indian expat, Priyanka, also hoped special flights for people wishing to return would be announced soon. “I would like to know the requirements and further processes, and whether it is possible to apply for such a flight,” she said.
Surendra Naidu also needs to fly back to Oman soon: although he had previously booked a flight ticket to return to the country, it has since been postponed to 30 October, which is after his visa expires.
“I need to come back before 15 October, as my visa is only valid for three months,” he said.
In response to requests from people enquiring about passengers being able to board Oman bound flights once again, Air India has asked people to keep an eye out for regular updates issued by the airline.
“We will update you as soon as we get information regarding flights for Oman,” said India’s national carrier, responding to queries from those who wish to travel. “Keep a watch on our Twitter handle and visit our website for the latest updates.”
With passengers from the Philippines also banned from entering Oman, many Filipinos have also taken to online platforms to request a lifting of this measure.
“My flight has been cancelled until further notice – this is the third time this has happened,” said Raf Antonis, who was scheduled to fly on July 1.
At present, passengers flying from 15 countries: Sudan, Brazil, Nigeria, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, the UK, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam are banned from entering Oman.
Exceptions are made for Omani nationals, healthcare workers, diplomats, and their families.
