Former Oman football stars attend AFC coaches course

Muscat: An AFC B Coaches Course, organised by the Oman Football Association (OFA) at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex recently, has attracted several former Omani stars who showed keen interest in learning the nuisances of modern coaching.
The December 26 to January 14 course was conducted by Oman’s Khalid Al Lahori, an experienced instructor who is also the Manager of Development and Education Department at the OFA, and Bahraini expert Fahad Al Mukhareq with the participation of 23 coaches.
Among those who benefited from the course was Badr Al Maimani, a member of Oman's golden generation of footballers and that of Sultanate's maiden Gulf Cup winning squad in 2009.
The other former stars who attended the course were former goalkeeper Sulaiman Khamis and fellow internationals Talal Khalfan, Said Al Shoun, Mohsin Al Kharousi and Sultan Al Touqi.
During the 20-day course, the participants were put through intense training sessions in both practical and theoretical aspects of the game.
Subjects covered included team building, coaches duties, role of captains, goalkeepers role, tactics, principles of attack and defence, rules, how to observe and analyse games, nutrition, health, psychology, physiology and others relevant subjects that are crucial for grooming good coaches.
After refresher session on some basics of football coaches, the participants were taught advanced technical and tactical skills as well as training methods.
Sheikh Dr. Ghaleb Mohammed Al Hosni, Executive Vice-President of HR at Omantel, presided over the closing ceremony and handed over the certificates to the participants.
Khalid Al Lahori, meanwhile, thanked all the participants and wished them the very best in their future endeavors as coaches.
