CPA to keep check on prices of essentials in Sur

Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate is actively ensuring that prices of essentials do not spike in the Wilayat of Sur, post the heavy rains.

"The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), represented by the Consumer Protection Department in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, continues to regulate markets in the governorate, especially in the Wilayat of Sur," said an online statement Oman News Agency.

"Fieldwork teams comprising judicial police officers will follow up on the continued provision of goods and services by suppliers under the current circumstances and check against abuses," Awad bin Saeed Al Alawi, Director of the Consumer Protection Department in South Al Sharqiyah, said in the statement. 

The authority will continue to receive consumer complaints and issue communications during the holiday period through the authority’s hotline and official accounts on social media, and find appropriate solutions, the director further said.

He added that the administration visited commercial centres, facilities selling food, bakery items, potable water, livestock, cooking gas and animal feed to ensure the continued availability of basic commodities and at accessible prices.

"We have met and followed up with the owners of potable water tankers, urging them not to take advantage of the present conditions, and to coordinate with the authorities concerned to overcome any obstacles they face," he added.
