Muscat: An administrative fine of OMR 1,000 has been imposed against an expat for selling chewing tobacco in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) said.
"The Consumer Protection Department in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate arrested an expat worker (farmer) who traded and sold chewing, non-smoking tobacco, which is in violation of the Consumer Protection Law and its Executive Regulations," CPA said in a statement.
The expat worker was trading and selling chewing tobacco in one of the farms in the Wilayat of Jalan Bani Bu Ali. In cooperation with the stakeholders in the Police Command of South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, one of the farms where the expat works was raided and 18 bags of Afzal drug and 140 bags of tombak were seized.
Accordingly, the seized quantities were confiscated and prepared for destruction after completing the legal procedures and issuing a seizure report on the incident, where the expatriate confessed to the crime. Accordingly, an administrative fine of OMR 1,000 was imposed. The seized quantities of chewing, non-smoking tobacco will be destroyed in accordance with the controls and procedures in force in the Consumer Protection Authority.
The authority, represented by its various directorates and departments, affirms that it will spare no effort in following up and monitoring the markets and controlling everything that may harm the health and safety of consumers. It will also work to take all legal measures against violators and it called on consumers to report any violations they may notice through the authority's various communication channels.
