Muscat: The Ministry of Education has organised a national symposium on sustainable education on June 22-23 at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The symposium has among its participants national experts, decision-makers, researchers, academics and international experts from the international organisation, including UNESCO, UNICEF, and ESCWA.

Titled ‘Education in Oman: Towards Sustainable Education to Enhance Future Skills’, the symposium will explore the current status of and future expectations from education and will suggest viable ideas to enhance Oman’s educational process according to the experiences of practitioners, researchers, academicians, youth representatives and participants from civil society organisations.

The National Education Symposium is an interdisciplinary space to mobilise all parties concerned in the development of education in Oman to establish a roadmap for transforming education through highlighting efforts from all stakeholders involved in the future of education in Oman.

The Symposium also seeks opportunities to invest in education, response and innovation, and leveraging lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Mahmood Al Abri, Assistant of Secretary-General of Oman national commission for Education, Culture and Science, at the Ministry of education, stated: “The first day of the symposium includes papers in two academic sessions on ‘The Reality and Future of Education in Oman’, while the second day of the symposium is dedicated to conducting national consultations in nine synchronous sessions.

“The symposium sheds light on Oman’s efforts to develop the education system at all levels (school and higher education, technical and vocational education) and on the best ways to develop education in the Sultanate of Oman. The symposium comes in line with the Sultanate of Oman’s preparation for Transforming Education Summit in New York City, USA next September, and prior to that, the preparatory meeting at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris at the end of June.”
