Muscat: Omani cyclist Shabib Al Balushi was crowned the champion of the first edition of the Salalah Mountain Bike Race. The race was held in Wadi Sahlanout in the Wilayat of Salalah and was organised by the Dhofar Municipality in cooperation with the Oman Cycling Federation as part of the Dhofar Serbs activities.
Fahm El Khiari came in second, and Britain's David Haines came in third.
There were 78 participants from the Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain, the Philippines, Australia, Britain and Spain who participated in the race for the general category and the under-23 category, in addition to the participation of a number of category for women for a distance of 18 km. The race consisted of three routes of 6 km each, at an altitude of 780 metres above sea level.
In the youth category under 23 years, Oman’s cyclist Munther Al Hasani won the first place, Yahya Al Qasimi came in second, and Muhammad Al Wahaibi came in third.
In the women's category, Filipino Gisele Cornejo was crowned first, Australia's Elissar Al Baba was in the second place, and Omani Amira Al Obaidani in the third place.
At the end of the race, Saif bin Sebaa Al-Rashidi, President of the Oman Cycling Federation, honoured the winners of the first places.
