Oman witnesses big rise in number of Chinese tourists

Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism organised a second workshop to enlighten partners in the Omani tourism sector about how to deal with Chinese visitors and understand their needs.

The workshop was held in the presence of Azzan Qassim Al Busaidi, Tourism Undersecretary.

Chinese outbound flights grew from 57 million in 2010 to 155 million in 2019, with Oman seeing the largest increase in Chinese tourists from 44,580 in 2018 to 107,446 in 2019, an increase of 141 percent. These figures reflect a much stronger growth compared to other long-distance exporting markets.

During the workshop, a programme titled “China Ready” was presented by Marcus Lee, CEO of CBISN, which already launched the programme in 49 countries across 6 continents. More than 80 agents of travel and tourism companies, hotel facilities and airlines in Oman participated in the programme.

The workshop is a curtain raiser ahead of the re-opening China. Target groups, preferences and the behaviour of Chinese tourists have changed after the Corona pandemic. The orientation will help destinations, hotels, tourist attractions and other service providers to upgrade and update their product offers.
