Muscat: Most governorates of the Sultanate of Oman will witness thunderstorms of varying intensity for three days from Tuesday, December 27, 2022 until Thursday, December 29, 2022 as a result of the trough of low pressure.
"The latest weather maps and analyses of the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre indicate upper air troughs will likely continue affecting Oman on 27th December until Thursday morning 29th of December 2022," the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), said.
CAA added that clouds advection will continue affecting Governorates of Musandam, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Al Dakhiliyah, Muscat, Al Dhahirah, North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah with chances of rains and occasionally thundershowers will likely cause the wadis to flow.
According to the CAA, the trough of low pressure will continue affecting the Governorates of Musandam, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Al Dakhiliyah, Muscat, Al Dhahirah, North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah . The weather event will start gradually weakening by Wednesday night with continuing chances of scattered rain until Thursday morning.
The expected impacts of the trough that will continue affecting Oman till Thursday are :
1. Rain showers from 10-60 mm will likely cause wadis to flow
2. Fresh downdraft winds with speed of 15 to 35 kt ( 30-70km / h ).
3. Sea state will be moderate to rough with maximum wave height will be between 2 metre to 3 metre along the coasts of Musandam Governorate and the coastal areas of Oman Sea.
CAA advices all to take precautions during rain and flooded wadis and to check the visibility and sea state before sailing.
