Muscat: In an initiative that is the first of its kind globally, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a paid sabbatical leave policy for citizens looking for self-employment and are federal government employees.
As of January 2, 2023, the UAE government will start implementing the sabbatical leave for self-employment for citizens of the federal government, which was approved by the Council of Ministers headed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai in July 2022, as part of the fifty projects. It is an initiative that is the first of its kind in the world.
The self-employment leave aims to empower national cadres and talents, and motivate them to enter the world of entrepreneurship and discover its fields, which will reflect positively on the future of the nation’s economy.
