Muscat: Frost and hail may form on mountain peaks in the Sultanate of Oman due to the air trough which will continue to affect most governorates until Sunday morning, January 29, 2023.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said in its weather report No.3 that an upper air trough will continue to affect the Sultanate of Oman until Sunday morning, January 29, 2023. There are chances of clouds advection and isolated rain with occasional thundershowers and hail over the Governorates of Musandam, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahira, Al Wusta, Al Dakhiliya and Muscat.
The influence is expected to gradually extend to the governorates of North Al Sharqiyah, South Al Sharqiyah and Dhofar. Highest rainfall is expected over the northern governorates.
Expected impacts of the weather condition are :
1- Accumulation of isolated rainfall ranging from 10 to 70 mm may cause overflow of valleys.
2- Chances for snow and frost over mountain's tops.
3- Fresh downdraft winds with speed of 15 to 40 kt (28-74 km / h).
4- Sea state will be moderate to rough along the coastal areas of Oman Sea with maximum wave height ranging between 2-3 meters.
5- Noticeable decrease in temperature over most of the governorates, especially on mountain tops.
The Civil Aviation Authority advises all to take precautions during rainfall and overflow of valleys, and to check the visibility and sea state before sailing, along with following weather bulletins & reports.
