Syrian envoy praises His Majesty  for supporting quake-hit people

Muscat: Idris Maya, Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Sultanate of Oman, valued the Sultanate of Oman’s solidarity with the Syrian Arab Republic on various issues.

He expressed his thanks to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik for the humanitarian stance in supporting the Syrian people to overcome impacts of the earthquake, which hit Syria recently.

The ambassador asserted that the visit of the Syrian President Bashar Al Assad to the Sultanate of Oman and his meeting with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik come as an affirmation of the deep, bilateral relations between the two countries from the seventies of the last century.

He described the Omani diplomacy as “distinguished” as it aims to strengthen Arab solidarity, particularly in light of the current regional and international situation.

He explained that the visit comes as part of the Sultanate of Oman’s endeavours to reunite the Arabs.

On the role of the embassies of the two countries in promoting economic and investment cooperation, the Syrian ambassador pointed out that the embassies of the two countries are working constantly to upgrade economic relations to reach the level of political relations and take advantage of the capabilities and opportunities available in the two countries to achieve further economic and investment integration.

He aspired that the Syrian-Omani Business Council would play an active role in enhancing bilateral relations and joint trade exchange. He said that the joint governmental committee between the two countries will hold its sixth meeting before the end of 2023 in Muscat.

In the cultural field, the ambassador pointed out that the Sultanate of Oman is keen to lend support and assistance in order to restore and preserve the Syrian antiquities damaged by the earthquake that struck several archaeological sites in Damascus and Aleppo.
