Will Oman witness Solar Eclipse this week?

Muscat: The first solar eclipse of 2023 is expected to be witnessed by different parts of the world on the April 20.

Times of Oman contacted expert astronomer, Dr. Sabih Al-Saadi to clarify if the phenomenon will be witnessed in the Sultanate of Oman. He explained that the eclipse will not be seen with in the Sultanate of Oman, saying: “A rare (hybrid) solar eclipse will occur on the 20th of this April, and it is a mixture of the total eclipse in some areas and the annular one in other regions at the same time, in addition to partial eclipses of the sun in other regions.”

Dr. Al-Saadi confirmed that it will not be possible to watch the eclipse in the Sultanate of Oman of any kind, whether total, annular or partial. He also stated the total and annular solar eclipse will be seen in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, Western Australia, East Timor and eastern Indonesia, while the partial solar eclipse will be seen in some European countries, New Guinea and the Marshall Islands.

The last solar eclipse was witnessed in October 2022 -- a partial eclipse of the Sun in a number of countries of the world.
