Heavy rainfall to continue in Oman, alerts CAA

Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued Alert No. 8 on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, stating that heavy rains are expected today in parts of the Sultanate of Oman.

Al-Ashkharah area in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate may receive rainfall reaching more than 53 milliliters.

According to CAA, currently the affected areas are South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah, parts of Muscat and Al Wusta governorates. The weather may extend to parts of Al Dakhiliyah, South Al Batinah and Al Dhahirah governorates.

CAA said in the alert, heavy rainfall ranging between (20-60)mm, poor horizontal visibility due to duststorms during thundershower, and downdraft winds (15-50)knots, including flash floods in valleys may be expected.

CAA asks people not to risk crossing valleys, keep an eye on children, move away from low lying areas with immediate effect, and not attempt to go swimming.
