Muscat: His Excellency Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, met with His Excellency Dr. Rashad Muhammad al Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council of the Republic of Yemen, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, on the sidelines of the meetings of the seventy-eighth session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed developments and efforts related to enabling and sustaining the truce in the sisterly Republic of Yemen, as well as supporting the efforts made and enhancing confidence and constructive dialogue between all Yemeni parties and forces.
In this context, the two sides affirmed their support for the efforts made towards ending the war and entering into a comprehensive political process that meets the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people in achieving security, stability and peace for the Republic of Yemen and in reconstruction, development and prosperity.
His Excellency the Minister also expressed the Sultanate of Oman’s welcome to the positive discussions that took place recently in Riyadh, which came as a continuation of the efforts made to reach a comprehensive solution that meets the aspirations of all the brotherly Yemeni people. For his part, His Excellency the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council in Yemen expressed his appreciation for the support of the government of the Sultanate of Oman and its efforts in this regard.
Later, His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi received Vladimir Voronkov, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Combating Terrorism, at the headquarters of the Sultanate of Oman’s permanent delegation to the United Nations in New York.
During the meeting, His Excellency stressed the Sultanate of Oman’s firm policy based on peaceful coexistence between nations, peoples and various religions, good neighborliness and non-interference in internal affairs. His Excellency pointed out that the Sultanate of Oman is working in accordance with its strategy to combat terrorism with all regional and international partners to take measures to protect society from Extremism and terrorism.
For his part, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations for Counter-Terrorism praised the efforts made by the Sultanate of Oman at the local and international levels, which have tangible results, in addition to the axes on which the national strategy to combat terrorism is based.
The meeting was attended by His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Mohammed bin Awad Al Hassan, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations in New York, His Excellency Ambassador Sheikh Humaid bin Ali Al Maani, Head of the Global Affairs Department, and a number of officials from both sides.
