Green Hydrogen Summit Oman goes global, next summit in Cairo in October

MUSCAT: The Green Hydrogen Summit Oman (GHSO) has become synonymous with innovation and collaboration in the renewable energy sector over the past three years. Oman's rise as a key player in the hydrogen industry has been underscored by the summit's success, showcasing the nation's dedication to sustainable energy solutions.
Now, in an exciting development, the organisers, Birba, headquartered in Muscat, are set to extend this success globally in 2024, marking a significant milestone in Oman's renewable energy journey.
Hosted by Birba, the first Global Hydrogen Summit Cairo (GHSC) is scheduled to take place from October 1-3 in the vibrant Egyptian capital, as part of the Cairo Sustainable Energy Week (CSEW) in partnership with Egypt’s Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE).

This expansion underscores Oman's growing influence across the renewable energy sector and highlights the nation's commitment to fostering international collaboration.

Unveiling the expansion plans at a media briefing on Tuesday, Abdullah Al Harthy, Birba Chairman, said: "Our team at Birba are passionate about supporting the industries which are building our future. It’s an honour to support Oman through the summit, while showcasing its strong hydrogen vision and point of difference as a leading hydrogen hub."

Since its inception in 2021, GHSO has experienced remarkable growth, attracting global participants and fostering connections crucial for the industry's advancement.

The rebranding as 'Global Hydrogen Summit' acknowledges Oman's pivotal role as a hydrogen leader and facilitator of international collaborations.
As demand for hydrogen technology surges, the summit's evolution into a global platform opens doors to new opportunities and partnerships beyond geographical boundaries. The upcoming summit aims to explore all variants of hydrogen and their value chains, vital components of future energy systems.

The new GHS logo embodies a holistic brand identity, reflecting the summit's global and inclusive approach to hydrogen technologies. It will serve as a platform for high-level discussions on policy, financing, and the transition to renewable hydrogen, boosting meaningful connections and showcasing cutting-edge technology.

Elaborating on the upcoming summit’s significance, Vivian Wood, Managing Director of Birba, said: "The Global Hydrogen Summit Cairo (GHSC) will be part of the Cairo Sustainable Energy Week in partnership with RCREEE. RCREEE is the technical arm of the Arab League. Through the event we aim to unite the Arab League, MENA and the world in advancing renewable energy."

Highlighting the summit's broader objectives, Ms Wood said: "We're excited about the opportunities the Global Hydrogen Summit Cairo presents. It's not just about showcasing advancements but also about collaboration and knowledge exchange on an international scale."

Al Harthy also revealed that "GHS-Cairo will feature an Oman Pavilion where the organisers look forward to showcasing Oman’s latest Green Hydrogen developments with the world."
With over 1,700 delegates from 60 countries and significant student participation over the past three years, GHSO has promoted critical dialogue among governments, industry leaders, and stakeholders, driving actions to support green hydrogen development and address global energy challenges.
