‘Shell Ideas 360’ competition aims to hunt Omani talent

Muscat: Omani students will get a chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime National Geographic Adventure in a competition entitled, “Shell Ideas 360,” which has been launched by Shell Oman and the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) to develop Omani talent.
Shell Ideas 360 is a global competition that invites university and college students from all around the world to create, share and collaboratively develop innovative ideas and solutions that tackle global challenges associated with energy, water and food resources.
Commenting on the occasion, Dr Abdullah Al Sarmi, undersecretary of the Ministry, said, “The agreements reflected Ministry of Higher Education and Shell’s concern to support creativity and innovation among Higher Education Institution (HEI) students. This initiative will definitely encourage our creative HEI students to share their innovative and research ideas and compete with their peers locally and internationally.”
Firm integration
“It also gives them the chance to develop their ideas in an advanced and practical way. Such initiatives confirm the close and firm integration between academic institutions and innovative research fields. They also enrich the academic institutions’ environment with practical and positive knowledge, which leads to better life solutions.
Chris Breeze, Shell’s country chairman in Oman, said, “Shell is committed to supporting youth development and sustainability in Oman. This competition will prompt young Omanis to tap into their imagination and creativity in order to develop innovative solutions for the problems facing society now.”
In addition to the prize scheme that will be awarded locally to the qualifying teams from Oman, the winning students will also win a chance to experience the coveted National Geographic Adventure. The best ideas will be considered for funding by the Shell Game Changer programme, which has invested over $300 million to date, and worked with over 1,500 innovators, turning more than 100 ideas into reality.
