Sayyid Asaad to Open Muscat Global Knowledge Dialogue tomorrow
Muscat: Under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Special Representative of His Majesty, Sultanate of Oman represented by Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation in cooperation with the International Science Council (ISC), will host the Muscat Global Knowledge Dialogue and ISC’s Third General Assembly on 26–30 January 2025.
Talking about the significance of this global event, Dr. Saif Abdullah Al Haddabi, Undersecretary for Research and Innovation said: "This key event will gather 415 scientists, policy-makers, funders and educators from 132 countries who will meet and engage in strategic discussions on challenges, priorities and agendas for international cooperation in science.
Taking place at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, Muscat Global Knowledge Dialogue will serve as a key public-facing segment of the ISC’s Third General Assembly and focus on cross-disciplinary conversations around three key themes:
Science systems and science futures, exploring current and anticipated developments in science, including AI and other emerging technologies, open science, research assessment, science publishing and trans-disciplinary science.
• Science and just transformations to sustainability, addressing science’s role in driving environmental and societal change.
• Science and society, emphasising trust in science, diplomacy, and issues of equality and social cohesion.
The two-day event aims to inspire actionable science and strengthen collaboration across countries and disciplines, culminating in a declaration that will reflect the shared aspirations and commitments of the international scientific community
.”Hosting the event in Oman reaffirms the country’s growing role as a leader in science diplomacy and its commitment to science-driven approaches to delivering the Oman 2040 Vision.”
“The Muscat Global Knowledge Dialogue represents a critical effort and a reminder to policy-makers that science should remain central to creating and delivering solutions for the many global challenges we must confront," said Sir Peter Gluckman, ISC President. "It’s a chance to examine how the science system itself must evolve to set and meet ambitious goals and foster the partnerships with policy-makers and civil society needed to achieve them."
