Ramadan 2025: A glimpse into the holy month across Oman

Muscat: As the crescent moon heralded the start of Ramadan, Muslims across Oman embraced the sacred month with devotion, prayer, and a renewed sense of unity.

From vibrant cities to serene towns, the atmosphere of faith and reflection was evident across the Sultanate.

Mosques welcomed worshippers for daily prayers, while families and communities prepared for Iftar, the evening meal that brings people together after a day of fasting.

In Muscat, as well as in cities like Nizwa, Sur, Sohar, and Salalah, people gathered at mosques and homes, strengthening bonds through shared prayers and meals.

Mohammed Alam, a visitor at Sultan Qaboos Mosque in Muscat, expressed his warm wishes. “Ramadan is a time of peace and reflection. We fast, pray, and hope for blessings for everyone,” he said.

The sense of togetherness was equally strong in Nizwa, where an Iftar gathering saw families and friends sharing traditional Omani dishes.

“Ramadan teaches patience and gratitude,” said Fatima Al Hinai, a Nizwa resident. “It’s a time to reconnect with faith and to help those in need.”*

In Sur, local markets bustled with activity as people stocked up on dates, fruits, and traditional
ingredients.

“This month brings a special energy,” said Ahmed Al Ghailani, a local fisherman in Sur. “Preparing for Iftar, spending time with loved ones, and offering prayers  - it’s a truly meaningful experience.”*

Salalah, known for its welcoming community spirit, saw locals engaging in charitable activities alongside their prayers and fasting. “Giving back is a big part of Ramadan here,” shared Mohammed Al Marhoon.

“Whether it’s sharing a meal or supporting those in need, kindness defines this month.”

Throughout Oman, markets overflow with Ramadan essentials, reflecting both spiritual and cultural traditions.

The day’s fast concludes with the Maghrib call to prayer, followed by Iftar  - a moment of gratitude and togetherness.

As the month progresses, nightly Tarawih prayers offer worshippers a chance for deeper reflection, while acts of charity strengthen community bonds. The culmination of Ramadan will bring the joyous festival of Eid Al Fitr, marking a time of celebration, generosity, and unity.

Ramadan in Oman is not just about fasting but about embracing faith, compassion, and shared traditions  - a time that unites hearts across the country.
