194 students compete in Oman national programming challenge

Muscat: A programming competition, organised by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology in collaboration with Sultan Qaboos University, the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, the Programming Academy, and OQ, attracted 194 participants forming 65 teams from 21 universities and colleges across Oman.

The competition featured complex programming challenges that required logical thinking and problem-solving abilities, utilising languages such as Python, Java, and C++. Performance was evaluated based on the accuracy of solutions, speed of completion, and the number of attempts made.

Following intense competition, the top three teams were announced. "Enigma" from Sultan Qaboos University secured first place, "Libre," also from Sultan Qaboos University, took second place, and "Al-Istiqama" from the German University of Technology claimed third place. The winning teams received prizes totalling 6,750 OMR, and three teams have been selected to represent Oman in the regional programming contest in Egypt.

Dr. Ali bin Amer Al-Shaidhani, the Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology, praised the participants for their outstanding performance and emphasised the competition’s significance in promoting digital innovation and cultivating skills crucial for Oman’s economic transformation.

The event also introduced preparatory regional contests for the first time, held in Sohar, Nizwa, and Muscat. These preliminary events aimed to better prepare teams for the main competition and broaden participation opportunities throughout Oman. This initiative underscores the Ministry’s commitment to identifying and developing young talent in technology, fostering collaboration between academic institutions and industry, and supporting Oman’s vision for digital excellence through innovation and programming.
