Ministry of Technology kicks off second edition of "Makeen" programme

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has launched the second edition of the "Makeen" Camps at the Programming Academy headquarters. The current intake includes 40 trainees who are divided into two main specialisations: Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and Comprehensive Web Application Development.

The training programme for the "Makeen" Camps is designed to equip young Omani nationals with skills in modern technical fields through an intensive 16-week academic phase, followed by an 8-week practical placement in government and private sector organisations. This structure aims to enhance the trainees' opportunities to gain practical, real-world experience, thereby better preparing them for the employment market.

The first day of the current camp involved interactive sessions focused on building team spirit and promoting collaboration. Trainees also received an overview of the overall programme and the projects they will be working on during the camp. They were also introduced to the Academy's team and the learning environment.

The current group of trainees was selected from over 1,040 job seekers who underwent a thorough screening process involving assessments and personal interviews to identify the most suitable candidates for the programme.

The second edition of the "Makeen" camps aims to train a total of 200 participants across three intakes during 2025. Participants receive a monthly financial grant and laptops, contributing to a comprehensive training environment that supports both learning and practical application.

As part of the programme's plan for geographic expansion, the second intake of the camp will commence in Sohar on April 20th, focusing on the specialisations of Systems Engineering and Network Security Engineering. Subsequent intakes will be launched in the governorates of Sur and Salalah. This expansion aligns with the Ministry's efforts to support the empowerment of Omani youth throughout the Sultanate's governorates and to promote the principles of innovation and the digital economy in line with national digital transformation trends.
