Salalah Airport sees 16% increase in flights during Khareef season

Muscat: Salalah Airport has announced a notable increase in both aircraft movements and passenger numbers during the Khareef season of Dhofar 2025, which ran from June 21 to August 3. The data, released by Oman Airports, shows a significant boost compared to the same period in 2024.

Key Statistics (June 21 - August 3):

Total Flights: Aircraft movements grew by 16%, reaching a total of 1,849 flights compared to 1,592 in the previous season.

Total Passengers: The number of passengers increased by 5%, from 274,030 in 2024 to 288,110 in 2025.

Arrivals: Arrival flights rose by 16% (from 795 to 925), and arriving passengers increased by 3% to 158,301.

Departures: Departure flights also saw a 16% increase (from 797 to 924), with departing passengers growing by 8% to 129,809.

Oman Airports has attributed this growth to several factors, including efforts to enhance the passenger experience. The airport has implemented new technologies, expanded lounge capacity, and launched the "Travel Easier" initiative, which allows passengers to complete check-in procedures from their cars to save time.

The data reflects the growing popularity of Dhofar Governorate during the Khareef season, driven by its moderate weather and seasonal rainfall. This, combined with a variety of heritage, cultural, and recreational activities, is reinforcing the governorate's position as a leading tourist destination.
