OOC reveals details of Asian Youth Games participation

Muscat: The Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) has announced details of its participation in the third edition of the Asian Youth Games, which will be hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain from October 22 to 31.

This was revealed during a meeting held on Tuesday at OOC headquarters, chaired by Abdullah bin Mohammed Bamakhalaf, OOC Secretary-General.

Oman will compete in six sports: athletics, golf, e-sports, aquatics, taekwondo, and equestrian.

The selection of these sports comes after a series of preparations and continuous follow-ups carried out by OOC in coordination with federations and sports committees.

Over the past period, the assigned working team assessed the readiness of the national teams from both technical and administrative perspectives and reviewed their performance in previous international events, in cooperation with specialized technical staff.

OOC stressed that the criteria adopted for selecting the participating sports focused on ensuring a competitive presence for the national teams, while also providing opportunities for promising athletes who are expected to have bright futures in the long term, supported by comprehensive development and training programmes that enhance their technical and physical capabilities.

The meeting also discussed the administrative and logistical details related to Oman’s participation in the Games, including reviewing the competition schedule and venues, the technical and organizational requirements for each sport, as well as the key guidelines and regulations to be applied during the event.

The Committee emphasised its commitment to coordinating all administrative and technical aspects to ensure a smooth and well-organised participation for the Omani delegation and to boost the teams’ readiness at both technical and physical levels, aiming to achieve positive results across all participating sports.

It is worth noting that the third edition of the Asian Youth Games is considered one of the most prominent continental events organised under the supervision of the Olympic Council of Asia.

The event targets athletes aged between 14 and 18 and brings together elite young athletes from across the continent.

The upcoming edition will feature competitions in 24 sports across 31 sporting events, with a total of 253 competitions including male, female, and mixed categories.

These will take place at several modern sports facilities, most notably Isa Sports City, Khalifa Sports City, the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre, the Endurance Village, and the Sama Bay area.
