Muscat: Team Coorg Oman stamped their authority on the Gulf Hockey Fiesta men’s final on Saturday, lifting the title with a commanding 6–3 win over UTSC as the Hockey5s Oman Carnival wrapped up a vibrant, action-packed weekend at Hockey Oman Arena that drew over 15,000 fans and reaffirmed the sport’s growing footprint in the Sultanate.
Organised by Oman Hockey Association in partnership with UTSC, the carnival blended high-quality competition with festival flair.
The event opened in the presence of G V Srinivas, Ambassador of India to Oman, who hailed the organisers for strengthening sporting and cultural ties between the two nations. The closing ceremony was attended by Marwan Juma Al Juma, Oman Hockey Association (OHA) Chairman, along with senior sports officials.
A series of closely fought finals highlighted the depth of talent across categories.
In the Women’s International Tournament, India Rush Mumbai held their nerve after a 2–2 draw, edging Hustle Hoc Kochi 2–1 on penalties.
UTSC claimed the Masters Men crown with a composed 4–2 win over Oman Veterans, while Ahli-Sidab dominated the Under-18 boys’ final, defeating Al Amerat Club 7–2.
The younger divisions delivered their share of fireworks. Indian School Al Seeb swept past Muscat Club 7–1 to take the Under-18 girls title, and Muscat Club clinched the Under-14 boys’ championship with a lively 6–4 win over Quriyat Club.
True to its “carnival” billing, the tournament extended beyond the turf. A spectacular 600-women dance performance stole the spotlight, while a bustling Fan Village kept families engaged with games, entertainment, and cultural activities throughout the two-day festival.
Organisers thanked the teams, partners, and spectators for their overwhelming support, describing the event as a milestone in Oman’s hockey journey. With competitive action, community spirit, and cultural celebration blending seamlessly, the Hockey5s Oman Carnival concluded as one of the most memorable editions yet.
