Muscat: OQ Alternative Energy (#OQAE), the renewable energy arm of OQ, has announced the arrival of the first wind turbine shipments for its flagship Riyah 1 and Riyah 2 projects—set to become the largest wind farms in the Sultanate of Oman.
Developed in strategic partnership with TotalEnergies Renewables, the twin projects will feature a total of 36 wind turbines with a combined generation capacity of 234 megawatts (MW) of clean electricity. Once fully operational, Riyah 1 and Riyah 2 will represent the most significant wind power infrastructure in the country to date.
This milestone marks a major leap forward in Oman’s clean energy ambitions. The projects are designed to meet growing industrial demand for sustainable electricity while simultaneously freeing up valuable natural gas resources for export supporting both economic diversification and environmental stewardship.
Beyond their immediate impact, the Riyah wind farms are expected to bolster Oman’s readiness for future large-scale energy projects and enhance its standing in the global renewable energy landscape. The initiative aligns with the nation’s broader sustainability goals under Oman Vision 2040, which emphasizes innovation, energy diversification, and environmental responsibility.
