Muscat— In a move aimed at strengthening the culture of research and innovation, the Research and Innovation Authority has opened applications for the 13th edition of the National Scientific Research Award, inviting researchers across the Sultanate of Oman to submit their work and contribute to the nation’s growing knowledge economy.
Applications for the prestigious award began today and will remain open until June 16, 2026, providing an opportunity for scientists and researchers to showcase studies that address national priorities and global scientific challenges.
Supporting Researchers at Every Stage
The award reflects Oman’s commitment to nurturing scientific talent and building a vibrant research ecosystem. This year’s edition is designed to support researchers at different stages of their academic careers.
One category targets established researchers holding a PhD or equivalent, including physicians with the rank of senior specialist or higher. The second category is dedicated to emerging researchers who do not yet hold a PhD, encouraging young professionals and academics to engage in impactful scientific work.
By creating space for both experienced scholars and rising researchers, the initiative seeks to strengthen the pipeline of innovation in Oman.
Research Areas Linked to National Development
The award focuses on six strategic research areas that align with Oman’s development priorities:
Education and human resources
Information and communication systems
Health and community service
Culture, social sciences and basic sciences
Energy and industry
Environment and vital resources
These areas reflect the country’s efforts to ensure that scientific research contributes directly to sustainable development, economic diversification, and societal well-being.
Emphasis on Quality and Global Recognition
To maintain high academic standards, the award requires that submitted research be original work published in peer-reviewed journals. Eligible studies must have been published after March 15, 2023, and must appear in internationally recognized databases such as Scopus or Web of Science, or in approved Arabic peer-reviewed journals listed on the award’s official page.
Applicants must also be the principal author of the research, ensuring that the award recognizes those who led the scientific work. Only one application per researcher is allowed, and all team members must provide approval for submission.
A Platform for Scientific Excellence
Since its establishment, the National Scientific Research Award has recognized 140 researchers, highlighting groundbreaking studies that contribute to Oman’s progress and enhance its reputation in the global scientific community.
The initiative also aims to strengthen the connection between research outputs and real-world beneficiaries, encouraging scientists to produce knowledge that can translate into practical solutions and innovation.
As Oman continues to invest in research and innovation, the award stands as a symbol of the country’s dedication to scientific excellence and knowledge-driven development. For many researchers, it represents not only recognition but also an opportunity to place Omani research firmly on the international map.
