
Muscat: The Ministry of Interior has announced that the nomination period for candidates in the fourth term of Municipal Councils elections will begin on Sunday and continue until Thursday, April 23.
The Ministry urged eligible citizens wishing to run for membership to submit their applications electronically via the Elections application or through the official website elections.om.
Applicants are required to complete the online form and attach the necessary documents as specified.
According to Article (10) of the Municipal Councils Law, candidates must meet several conditions, including being Omani nationals, at least 30 years of age, and of good character and conduct.
They must not have been convicted of a felony or crimes involving moral turpitude or dishonesty unless rehabilitated, and must not suffer from a mental illness or be under judicial guardianship.
Additional requirements include holding at least a general education diploma, being registered in the electoral register in the state they wish to represent, and not being employed in security or military agencies.
Candidates must also not be members of the State Council or the Shura Council, nor reside or work outside the Sultanate. All eligibility conditions must be fulfilled by the day before the nomination period begins.
The announcement marks the start of the electoral process for municipal councils, which play a key role in supporting local development and community participation across Oman.
