Three power tansmission substations commissioned in Dhofar

Salalah: Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) has successfully completed the commissioning of three major power transmission substations in Dhofar Governorate: the Mudhi Substation, Shahbaa Asayb Substation, and Al Mazyounah Substation. This marks a significant step toward enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the governorate's power grid and meeting the growing demand for electricity.

The project also included the construction of overhead power transmission lines operating at 132 kV, spanning 267 kilometres. Upon completion, the project achieved approximately 4 million safe work hours without lost-time incidents, reflecting the Company's adherence to the highest health and safety standards. By the end of April 2026, OETC had recorded around 75 million safe work hours.

Eng. Khalid Marhoon Al Harmali, Acting Project General Manager at Oman Electricity Transmission Company, explained that these strategic, high-impact projects will enable the decommissioning of several diesel-fueled power generation units. This will support Oman's carbon emission reduction efforts by approximately 82,000 tonnes annually, alongside a reduction in diesel consumption of nearly 30.5 million litres per year.

In a statement to Oman News Agency (ONA), he noted that this aligns with national objectives to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, reduce reliance on conventional energy sources, and integrate renewable energy power plants, thereby enhancing energy security and sustainability. He added that this achievement reflects the company’s pivotal role as a key enabler of Oman's energy sector, as the company continues to consolidate its position by operating a power grid with exceptional efficiency and reliability.

Oman Electricity Transmission Company is the entity responsible for power transmission and control across the National Grid, with its services covering all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. The Company also operates the 220 kV grid interconnection lines linking Oman to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Interconnection Grid. As part of Nama Group, Oman Electricity Transmission Company works toward realising Oman's vision for a secure and sustainable energy system.
