#OmanPride: Global honour for Times of Oman's national dress initiative

Muscat: A celebration of the Sultanate’s national dress, created in honour of the 45th National Day, has won global recognition for Times of Oman.
Our interactive microsite, which lovingly detailed the rich heritage behind Oman’s dress for both men and women, was on Tuesday night named as a winner at the World Digital Awards in Vienna, Austria, chosen by Wan-Ifra (the World Association of Newspapers).
Times of Oman is the first Middle East title to ever win at the World Digital Awards, the most prestigious online honours in journalism, scooping the accolade for Best Data Visualisation for the creative www.timesofoman.com/extra/OmaniDress site.
A team of nine specialists at Times of Oman spent six months researching, designing and finally launching the highly immersive experience which features intricate drawings, graphics, animation, photographs and video.

The project was supported and sponsored by the Zubair Corporation and the Centre for Omani Dress.

Chief Executive Editor Scott Armstrong said: “I’m thrilled for the team behind this special project and even more so that a project that honoured Oman’s heritage has won recognition at a global level, particularly as we approach National Day this year.
“This came on the back of Times of Oman winning five awards, two gold, including for the Omani dress project, and three silver in the 2016 Middle East Digital Awards run by the World Association of Newspapers.”
