New Delhi: Many actresses are now going the Hollywood way but Katrina Kaif says she would prefer to stay in Bollywood and grab good roles.
The 32-year-old "Bang Bang" star said she would enjoy the opportunity of getting meatier roles, when others are busy trying their luck in the West.
"I have realised it recently that as everyone is going to Hollywood my competition is becoming really less. So, now is the time for me to sit here and by default get the roles which will become more available. I think now is the time to capitalise on the good characters," Katrina told PTI.
The actress, who will be seen in a romantic role in her upcoming film "Fitoor", said she would stay back and take up 'risky' projects like the Kashmir-based love saga.
"I am happy doing good roles here. 'Fitoor' is more of a risky film. It does not have the usual dance and song routine.
And one needs courage to do and make a film like this," she said.
Katrina's last outing "Phantom" did not perform as well as the makers expected it to, but according to her one can't constantly chase box-office collection and ignore good roles.
"You cannot help yourself from chasing those opening day figures but we have to come to peace with the fact that at times we have to chase for audience reaction which is a lifetime number.
"Once you get initial success in your career, you feel more fearless about taking risks. And I am ready to take that risk if I like the role," she said.
"Fitoor" is an adaptation of Charles Dickens' celebrated novel "Great Expectations," and Katrina, who is playing Firdaus (Estella) in the film said working with Tabu was a "bonus" for her.
"Working with Tabu ji was beautiful. She is very easy.
The best thing about her is she doesn't take herself seriously. You can see the goodness of her heart, it is pure.
Her being in same frame was the bonus for me." Tabu, is playing the role of Katrina's mother in the film, which was supposed to be played by Rekha initially.
The crew including the actress shot some scenes with Rekha and she said those moments are unforgettable.
"The time I spent with Rekha ji on the set of 'Fitoor' is something I will always cherish. It will always be in my memories," she said.
Directed by Abhishek Kapoor and produced by UTV Motion Pictures, "Fitoor" will hit the screens on February 12.
