Why do you love animals?
The unconditional love, loyalty, and companionship of animals have always attracted me towards them. I always had the opportunity to grow up with a pet by my side. Taking care of a pet taught me to be responsible, fearless, and loving towards all living beings. I guess the affinity towards them is innate, but it’s the mutual bond that we share that makes the bond so special.
How did you get into it?
One day I was walking home from school when I heard a puppy’s whimper. It was covered with dirt and soil in a ditch. Its moans made me curious. I sat there for almost an hour thinking that the mother would show up. After an hour my heart melted and I secretly took the puppy home in my bagpack and kept it in our backyard so that my parents wouldn’t discover. I gave it a nice bath, swathed in my towel, and gave milk to drink. It slept peacefully, but not for too long when it started crying again in the evening. My mother eventually discovered my secret but my dad let me keep it as he himself was a secret admirer of animals. That’s where it all began.
How can I get into it?
Today, it’s all about the ease of life. Even though many of us have this soft corner for animals we tend to shy away from taking responsibility of one. But expressing your love for animals teaches you a lot of simple but important things in life. Hence, I think it’s not necessary to keep a pet at home to exhibit that emotion. You can also walk the streets in Oman and find wadi dogs who equally want your attention. Start from there. You never know where that friendship might lead.
What is your pro tip for keeping a pet at home?
Raising a pet at home is like raising your own child. I personally recommend feeding your pet with home cooked meals and using the readymade foods only when it is absolutely necessary. This ensures good health, lesser trips to the vet, and a happier pet.

I’m against buying and selling animals. My personal recommendation is to give the local breeds a happy home. You can also adopt pets from non-profit groups. I understand that one has to pay for pets like birds, tortoise, or fish as you can’t find them on your own accord, and hence I encourage buying these pets at reasonable prices and promoting the purchase of only those kinds who can survive the weather in Oman.
