He wished them a bright future as they find themselves poised on the threshold of a new phase in their career. Exhorting them to fulfil the oath they took before God and their nation, he urged them to perform their duties with high spirits, efficiency and discipline. He also asked them to adhere to the ethics of the police profession, maintain the prestige and honour of the police officer and ensure proper application of law while constantly pursuing the path of self-development.
As for the existing batches, Col. Sulaiman Al Alawi said four batches of cadet officers will be graduating after having completed the requirements of the course of study. These include the 39th batch of cadet officers with a diploma in law and police science system; the 40th batch of specialised cadet officers; and another batch of cadet officers with limited service system.
“Graduation day is one of the most important days in the life of every graduate since it is the day when all the efforts come to fruition following a lot of hard work put in during the training period. On this day, the graduates feel proud of what they have achieved, and at the same time, can feel the great responsibility they are entrusted with.
“In addition, the graduation day marks the beginning of a new stage for graduates, one of applying their learning in science and skills in real life,” he added.
Col. Sulaiman concluded his speech by recalling the day when the Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences was opened on 5th January, 1980 under the royal auspices of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. He said the SQAPS was conceived as one of the institutions in charge of implementing education and training policy for the ROP.
The Academy witnessed many developments, including the Royal Decree. No 62/2000 under which its name was changed to SQAPS and it was upgraded to grant the bachelor degree in law and science.
