Muscat: Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Salmi, Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs sponsored on Monday the honouring ceremony for winners of the Sultan Qaboos Quran Contest at its 27th session at the Sultan Qaboos Mosque in the Wilayat of Sohar.
Habib bin Mohammed Al Riyami, Secretary-General of the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science, delivered a speech in which he referred to the role played by the Centre in organising the Sultan Qaboos competition and the efforts of the contestants in all centers in all governorates of the Sultanate.
He pointed out that the number of contestants in the 27 the session increased from the previous sessions, where 2,156 participated this year, compared to (2012) in 2016, stressing the importance of memorising the Holy Quran. The closing ceremony included readings from the Holy Quran to a number of the first contestants in the levels of the competition, as well as a presentation documenting the stages of the competition since its inception and the praise of some officials of the importance of the competition and its effects on the youngsters, both on themselves and their community.
At the end of the ceremony, the Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs honoured the first winners and outstanding contestants in the competition, in addition to honouring a number of parents, participants and supporting groups of the competition.
