Muscat: A research team led by Dr. Abdul Hakim bin Hamoud Al Rawahi, who is currently working for Oman Medical Specialty Board, and six other researchers have developed a formula for calculating the risk factors for diabetic arteriosclerosis in the Sultanate.
The study included more than 2,000 patients with diabetes.
The study idea started with revising the scientific encyclopedia which highlighted a number of methods to measure the risk levels, most of which were in Western countries. These formulae were not relevant for the Arab countries, therefore the study was made to explore an accurate formula for assessing the risk factors of diabetic arteriosclerosis for Arabs in general and Omanis in particular. The study is part of the research projects.
The scientific paper has been recently accepted in Diabetes & Metabolic Syndrome: Clinical Research and Reviews, one of the preferred journals.
