Muscat: Higher education institutions from the UK will soon share course information with students in Oman who seek to pursue their higher education in the UK.
Being organised in Muscat and Salalah, the Al Ahlam UK Education Expo will be held for two days beginning 21st March from 4:30pm until 9:00pm at the InterContinental Muscat, and then move to Salalah on 23rd March, where it will be open from 5:00pm until 8:00pm for two days at the Hilton Salalah Resort.
The economy of Oman has seen immense development over the last decade,with growth in sectors such as aviation, railways, oil and gas, logistics and entrepreneurship, creating many new job opportunities for Omani nationals. The UK institutions that will be visiting Oman at the Al Ahlam UK Education Expo will feature sessions to help students become more knowledgeable about these new opportunities.
Among the universities participating will be Glasgow, Kent, Northampton, Portsmouth, Swansea, and others that have a wide array of Bachelors, Masters and PhD courses to offer in specializations such as aerospace, civil petroleum, mechanical, computers, electronic engineering, economics, business, entrepreneurship, law, medical, veterinary and life sciences, fashion marketing, strategic quality management, social and political sciences, and others.
Yuliya Whittem, Senior International Officer at Aston University, expressed excitement about her participation at the Expo, and mentioned that amongst the various accredited degrees, there are specialized courses in Entrepreneurship and Business Law, Transport Product Design and Health.
Further, Director of International Development at Sheffield Hallam University, Ms. Gerardine Togher, stated that Oil and Gas Management, Forensic Accounting, Sports Business Management and Railway Engineering are among the courses the university offers.
Apart from universities, there are Pathway providerswho are participating in the expo. They offer Presessional English, International Foundation and Pre Maters courses, in partnership with leading universities. INTO University Partnerships, Study Group and Kaplan International Colleges are three such institutions that will be present at the expo.
Nusrat Bashir, Recruitment Manager of Study Group, explained that most Omani students require an additional academic year before entering a degree programme. Study Group offers a one year international foundation to help bridge the gap in academic and language skills. Omar Ratib, Recruitment Director of INTO University Partnerships, stated that apart from offering foundation courses, they also provide a pre-masters in Aviation and Entrepreneurship at Glasgow Caledonian University and INTO London. Mina Ghabrial, Regional Manager of Kaplan International Colleges, said he is looking forward to meeting students at the Expo and sharing information about their pathway programmes in fields such as engineering and business, which can help students progress to a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at a leading university.
English Language Schools will also be meeting potential students. They value Omani students who integrate well with other nationalities, creating a positive study experience for all, while improving their English language skills and growing as individuals.
