Muscat: The 40-year celebration of Oman National Engineering and Investment Company (ONEIC) was recently held, under the auspices of Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Legal Affairs and the chairman of the board of directors of Oman Charitable Organisation.
The celebration was attended by ministers, dignitaries and heads of a number of electric companies in the Sultanate.
“The 40th anniversary of the establishment of the company is being celebrated at a time when it has achieved a lot, due to partnerships in the public and private sector. It has been involved in support services in the areas of electricity and water,” Sheikh Ayman bin Ahmed Al Hosani, chairman of the board of directors of ONEIC, said.
He added that since its establishment, the company has been active in various other areas, also due to the diversity of its work and, most prominently, engineering works in the electricity and water supply stations and their maintenance.
The company has built a strategy based on its financial stability, which remains on display for its shareholders. In its methodology, it follows the rules of governance and transparency, he said.
“This is to assure it plays its role as a public shareholding company, which implements the laws, and it has contributions in the economic system of the country,” he added.
The level of Omanisation in the company reached 44 per cent, as of the end of last year. In view of the government’s policy, the company was offering job opportunities, in cooperation with the Ministry of Manpower. In 2016, ONEIC was chosen as the best company in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
Also, the company is implementing the policy of Omanisation under the guidance of the board of directors. In supervisory positions, the company has achieved 85 per cent Omanisation, while the company’s assets have increased from OMR32 million to OMR80 million, as of the end of 2017.
"We feel proud that we have 82 branches of the company spread all across the Sultanate, and it has also opened five billing departments in commercial centres,” said Sheikh Ayman Al Hosani.
The company looks forward to increasing its branches, in numbers and diversity, in the coming years, he said.
Dr Rashid Al Ghailani, chief executive officer of ONEIC, presented facts and figures about the company's achievements in many areas.
A film was shown about the beginning of the company and the stages of its development over the past 40 years. It also reviewed the development of its services and its 88 branches, along with their facilities, in all parts of the Sultanate.
He said that the company has a well-defined policy of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and is involved in various projects which are meant for the social upliftment of Omanis.
“We feel that the CSR is one of the most important elements of the activities of the ONEIC. We believe that the work is also a contribution to the social and economic development of our beloved country and its people,” he added.
The ceremony included art performances, including recitation of patriotic poetry by the poet Kamel Al Bathari, who also presented a poem about the company and its future potential.
