Survey of 380 industrial establishments begins

Muscat: The Directorate-General of Industry of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has started its annual survey of industrial establishments for 2018. This year, 380 industrial establishments of various governorates of the Sultanate have been targeted. This survey is aimed at correcting conditions in the industrial establishments and urging them to abide by the laws and regulations.
Eng Saoud bin Said Al Jabri, acting head of the industrial monitoring and control department of the Directorate-General of industry, said: "Industrial control is key to ensuring that establishments comply with the laws and regulations governing the sector to improve its efficiency. This survey is conducted with the joint efforts of the private sector and the industrial control bodies in the Sultanate. They continuously supervise and monitor products and production lines.”
He said the annual survey evaluated the national and expatriate labour needs of these establishments, in coordination with the Ministry of Manpower. The survey also covered factories that had already been given licences to hire expatriate workers.
The survey also monitored any violations or excesses by these enterprises either in the form of expansion of production lines or change in work sites without obtaining permission. Saud Al Jabri said legal action would be taken against those found violating laws.
Besides checking raw materials and equipment, the survey teams were monitoring compliance with safety and sanitation norms. They also checked that there was encouragement to hire local workers for all stages of industrial production work.
The government is taking care to support all efforts that help in achieving the objectives of the national programme,“Tanfeedh”, for diversification of the economy.
