Muscat: As the quiz master hurled a volley of questions, the battle of acumen grew stronger.
On Sunday more than 650 students matched wits in the much-awaited Times of Oman Inter School Quiz (TOOISQC) contest that kicked off at the jam-packed auditorium of the Indian School, Darsait.
Hosting the quiz Lloyd Saldanha fired audio, video and verbal posers at the participants. Around 39 teams stormed into the mega preliminary round with ISD Master Brains (juniors) and Team Destiny Quizzers (seniors) leading their groups. It was a scene of excitement and rumbles as students showcased their knowledge while facing questions related to geography, culture, personalities, sports, food and science.

“Last year we couldn’t move beyond the qualifying (or preliminary) round. We were sad. But we are well-prepared this time around. We are hopeful that this year will be different,” the excited duo told Times of Oman (TOO).
They represent ISD Master Brains-II (juniors) who are among the other qualifiers looking forward to make it to the finals this year.
Teams participating from 20 schools will vie in the mega preliminary quiz on April 19. The top 12 schools will clash in the final on April 21 at City Amphitheatre for the Essa bin Mohammed Al Zedjali Rolling Trophy - an iconic award for the children across schools in the Sultanate.
“This event is always big for us. Our participation has grown three times since last year,” Shalini Mohanan, HoD Social Science told TOO.
“The exercise will surely improve the confidence and general knowledge of our students.”
Schools participating in the quiz include the American British Academy, Bangladesh School Muscat, Bangladesh School Sohar, Beacon House School, Indian School Darsait, Indian School Ghubrah, Indian School Ibra, Indian School Maabela, Indian School Muscat, Indian School Seeb, Indian School Sohar, Indian School Salalah, Indian School Rustaq, Indian School Wadi Kabir, Modern International School, Pakistan School Muscat and Pakistan School Sohar.
The second qualifying round will take place at Indian School Muscat today (April 11).
