Raghunathgunj (West Bengal): Rahul Gandhi on Monday took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying both make promises but fail to fulfil them.
The Congress vice president also targeted the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo over corruption in the state in the light of the Saradha scam and the Narada sting operation against her party leaders.
"Mamataji had promised to wipe out corruption in the state. But, when corruption took place in front of her, she took no action," Rahul said, addressing election rallies in Raghunathgunj and Kandi in Murshidabad district."In fact, the party had gone from Saradha scam to Narada scam," he added.
Referring to the sting operation against TMC leaders, he said, again no action was taken in Narada against them by her.
"During election time now, Mamataji said, she will take action but why no action was taken earlier," he asked.
Rahul said Mamata's inability to keep her promises prompted Congress to fight against her in the Assembly polls.
"Five years back, Congress had supported TMC as Mamataji promised to bring parivartan (change), usher in development, give employment to the youth and improve law and order."
"But, a day after becoming chief minister, Mamataji had changed and forgotten the promises made to Congress and the people of the state," he said during an election meeting here.
"Mamataji had promised to set up factories and provide jobs to the youth who are going to other states. But, no factories were set up. So, we did not support her. We are fighting to defeat her," he said.
Rahul said, the prime minister had coined the 'Make in India' slogan with a promise that the youth will get employment but there were no signs of that.
"The people have voted him but no employment was given to the youth. Mamataji also promised to give employment to 70 lakh people but nothing has been done," he said and asked the crowd, "Is there a single person who got a jobs?"
Rahul also charged that both Modi and Mamata did not do anything for the farmers.
Referring to the Congress-Left alliance, Rahul said, "When our alliance government will come after the election, it will take action against those who indulged in corruption, who were involved in the Saradha scam. It will also give employment to the people and help the bidi workers."
Rahul also asked the Congress and Left workers to fight together. Congress is fighting the election in alliance with the Left.
"Fight together, I am with you", he said, adding, "Our government is going to be there."
