
Muscat: As part of the celebrations to commemorate the 550th Birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the Embassy of India and Punjabi Wing of Indian Social Club, in association with the Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Oman organised a special event “Talk on Life and Teachings of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji” on April 28, at the Embassy of India Auditorium in Al Khuwair.
Munu Mahawar, Ambassador of India to Oman, welcomed the esteemed Speakers Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Principal, Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College New Delhi and Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Principal, Mata Sundri College for Women, New Delhi and Guests of Honour Ahmed Khamis Masood Al Bahri, Director, Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs of Sultanate of Oman, and Prof, Dr. S L Gupta, Dean of Waljat College, Muscat.
The event was attended by more than 250 people including students from Indian Schools in Muscat, members of the Punjabi Wing as well as Sikh community in Oman. Ambassador MunuMahawar briefed the audience about Government of India’s decision to commemorate the 550th Birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji for a year from November 2018. He also informed that the Embassy has so far hosted screening of two films on Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and that Essay and Quiz competitions will be held for school students apart from painting exhibition and cultural events which are planned for the coming months.
Mr. Karanjeet Singh Matharoo, Convenor of Punjabi Wing introduced the Keynote Speakers from India and explained the importance of the event.
Dr. Jaswinder Singh in his address talked about major contemporary events during the life time of Guru Nanak Dev and enlightened the audience about life, teachings and principles of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Dr. Harpreet Singh talked about the Universal Love, Faith and Devotion to Duty as taught by Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji. A vote of thanks was then presented by Mr. Paramjit Singh, Co-convener of ISC Punjabi Wing.
