Muscat: An expat has been sentenced to three months in jail for selling chewing tobacco in the Wilayat Suwaiq, the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) said. The court also ordered the expat’s deportation after the completion of their sentence, and also ordered the accused to pay all their legal expenses as well and all illegal materials were confiscated. PACP Officials said that the preliminary court in Suwaiq issued a judgment against the worker "for violating the Consumer Protection Act," after he was arrested for selling "banned chewing tobacco” at the juice shop he worked for. Officials from Oman's consumer watchdog in Suwaiq received a complaint from a consumer, claiming that an expat was selling chewing tobacco in sandwiches. After confronting the accused with evidence, he admitted his crime and was referred to Public Prosecution for further investigation and was sent to trial.
