Muscat: Researchers have found 8,000-year-old stone tools in the southern part of the Sultanate, the Oman News Agency said.

Researchers at Ohio University in USA, the French National Centre for Scientific Research and the Max Planck Institute for the Sciences of Human History are studying ancient stone tools dating back 8,000 years that were found in southern Oman and Yemen.

According to a report, these tools were manufactured in a manner similar to stone tools found in North America, which date back thousands of years earlier than those found in the Sultanate.

The researchers emphasised that these tools are evidence that two groups of people developed tools in similar ways without having direct contact between them.

"And that humans in the Arabian Peninsula invented ancient, complex and useful stone weapons about 8,000 years ago that demonstrate their skill in making these tools," the report added.
