Shura panel to examine policy for revision of subsidies in Oman

Muscat: An action team will be formed to revise the public subsidy policies and to follow all developments related to lifting of fuel subsidy, according to a Majlis Al Shura Committee.
It will also assess the effect of cutting subsidy on society, especially families with limited income.
The Economic and Financial Committee at Majlis Al Shura yesterday held its 24th regular meeting of the first annual sitting 2015/2016 of the 8th term 2015/2019 under the chair of Saleh bin Said Masan, Head of the Committee.
In this regard, the committee will meet with the in-charge of monitoring the international crude oil prices and decide the sale price for the oil derivatives in the local market and then decide the difference rate, in line with the international prices.
The committee also reviewed the agreement for the encouragement and mutual protection of investments between the Sultanate’s Government and the Government of the Republic of Mauritius. The committee decided to host the relevant organizations in this areas to conduct more study and receive more clarification.
The committee reviewed the study conducted by the National Centre for Statistics and Information on the population growth and the requirements of the sustainable development 2040.
The study aims at estimating the population growth in the Sultanate during from 2016 to 2040 and the resultant development needs of such population growth.
NRAA
Majlis Al Shura reviewed at its 22nd regular meeting, under the chair of Khalid bin Hilal Al Ma’awali, Chairman of Majlis Al Shura, the letter of the National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA) on the report of NRAA activity and achievements for 2015.
The office decided to refer the report to the relevant committee.
The office also reviewed the report of the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) about key indicators of the overall family survey, which included a semi-annual report for the first quarter of 2016, in addition to job rotation indicators for Omanis and the economic dependency ratio, their illiteracy ratio and marital status, as well as a number of indicators relating to citizens’ family affairs. The office decided to refer them to the relevant committee.
The office was briefed on the report of the health and environmental committee, on the statement’s session of the Minister of Health. The report included discussions, debates, and the most important issues, questions and proposals that have been discussed with the minister.
Wastewater Services
The office reviewed the letter of the employees of Salalah Wastewater Services Company and decided to refer the letter to the relevant authorities.
The Services and Social Development Committee at Majlis Al Shura yesterday held its 15th regular meeting of the first annual sitting (2015 - 2016) of the 8th term under the chair of Dr Hamoud bin Ahmed Al Yahya’ee, Head of the Committee.
The Committee discussed its preparations to discuss the statement of Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Shihi, Minister of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources, which will be delivered at the 20th and 21st regular sessions of the 1st annual sitting (2015/2016) of the 8th term, (2015-2019) and scheduled to be held on June 27 and June 28.
The committee discussed themes of the statement, which includes several topics, including municipal policies and planning, public services and health, community, service and recreational projects, as well as water resources sector, which includes development programmes and policies targeting water resources.
Further, the Committee reviewed the proposal to provide a mobile mosque to serve sites of the events.
It also discussed proposed themes for the statement of the Minister of Housing, to be hosted in the second annual sitting. The Committee also reviewed the letter of the Chairman of Majlis on observations at the level of implementation of some projects related to roads and airports.
Taxi drivers
The committee discussed a report on results of the meeting of taxi drivers with the Minister of Transport and Communications on the working mechanism of mobile companies and how they compete with taxi drivers on roads, in hotels and airports.
Youth and Human Resources committee at Majlis discussed at its meeting under the chair of Mohammed bin Salim Al Busaidi, Head of the Committee its draft report on activating the role of the disabled in sports activities and the remarks, and proposals and recommendations included in the report.
Disabled
The committee hosted Dr. Mansour bin Sultan Al Touqi, Chairman of Oman Paralympic Committee (OPC) and some members of OPC board that looks after the sport activities of the disabled in the Sultanate, to identify the challenges and difficulties faced by OPC in the activation of its sports activity for the disabled in the Sultanate, who make up 3% of the Sultanate’s population according to the census of 2010.
Dr. Al Touqi talked about the procedures and regulations of OPC, touching on the challenges and difficulties faced by the committee in order to provide appropriate sport activity for this category.
The committee reviewed its report on its meeting with the Deputy Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Planning and Chairman of the Omani Olympic Committee, and some persons interested and involved in the youth’s issues in Oman.
