India: We often hear about experiences of a vacation in Dubai or Paris. Move over Dubai or Paris. Here is a one-of-its-kind offer: A holiday in a jail.
According to a report, a jail in the northern India state of Uttarakhand is offering a chance to spend a night in a jail.
Yes, you read it right! A jail experience in the city of Haldwani for as low as RO 2.5 (INR 500) per night.
Adventure seekers who wish to try out something different for a holiday have now an interesting option. For that, they would have to step out of their comforts of a hotel room with an attached bath and put on a prison uniform for a real life “jail experience”.
With a modest tariff of RO 2.5, it beats the price of any stay in any motel or a hotel room.
According to a prison official posted in Haldwani, “The jail is working to transform one of the wards for tourist guests who are brave and willing enough to spend a night in the cell.”
The “inmate” who wishes to feel the environment of a jail will be put up in an abandoned portion of the jail, which is a revamped facility.
He added that there have been requests already received for availing this “jail experience” as many believed in spending time in a prison to get over “bad karma” and few have sought to stay based on the advice of their astrologers.
The Haldwani prison was built in 1903, and a portion of it, comprising the old armoury with six staff quarters, which has remained abandoned, is currently being used to receive "guests".
