MUSCAT: The sporting fraternity in the Sultanate of Oman erupted in joy on Tuesday after Husain Al Farsi claimed Oman’s second medal at the ongoing 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in the 800m race final.
Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) secretary general Taha Al Kishry, who was present at the Hangzhou Olympic Centre Stadium to watch Al Farsi make history for Oman was overjoyed at the young athlete’s feat.
In his exclusive remarks to Times of Oman from Hangzhou, Al Kishry said: “I am thrilled to witness the remarkable achievement of Husain Al Farsi at the Asian Games. To be present at the stadium when the young Omani won a bronze was an amazing feeling and we are all proud of him. There were tears of joy on my face as he completed the challenging race in a great fashion.
“This accomplishment reflects the dedication, talent, and unwavering commitment of our athletes. We applaud Husain’s exemplary performance, which not only brings glory to our nation but also showcases the potential of Omani sportsmanship on the international stage.
“The Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) wholeheartedly congratulates Husain on this historic win and remains committed to nurturing and supporting our athletes as they strive for excellence in their respective fields.”
As’ad Al Hosni, Oman Athletics Association (OAA) general secretary, expressed his pride on Al Farsi’s medal-winning effort.
Al Hosni said: “Al Farsi has brought glory to the nation and his achievement puts him along the ranks of other Omani greats in athletics like Mohammed Amur Al Malki and Barakat Al Harthi.
“Husain has written history. It is a great and proud achievement and Oman Athletics Association would like to thank the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and the Oman Olympic Committee for their excellent support in providing the best possible environment to Husain and all our other athletes.”
