Days before his engagement, young Indian expatriate dies in Oman rains

MUSCAT: In a heart-wrenching twist of fate, a young Indian expatriate lost his life amidst heavy rains in Oman, just days before his engagement ceremony back home in India. The news of his untimely demise has cast a shadow of sorrow over his friends and families, leaving loved ones grappling with grief and disbelief.

Abdullah Wahid, aged 28, worked as a sales executive in a private firm. Tragically, while returning from Sur to Muscat, he was swept away on Monday while crossing a wadi in Ibra. His colleague, an Omani, managed to escape, but Wahid could not.

“We are heartbroken over the tragic accident that claimed the life of a young man on the brink of embarking on a new journey of life,” said Mohammed Vanimel, a representative of the Kerala Muslim Culture Centre (KMCC) in Muscat, which facilitated Wahid’s repatriation.

Wahid’s engagement was scheduled for February 16, and his family in Alleppey district of Kerala, eagerly awaited the festivities. However, their joy turned to mourning upon receiving the devastating news.

Caught off guard by the intensifying rain, Wahid was swept away before rescue teams could help.

The preparations for his engagement back in Kerala turned into mourning, as relatives and friends struggled to comprehend the sudden loss.

The dreams of seeing Wahid begin a new chapter with his fiancée were shattered, replaced by the agony of bidding him farewell forever. This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the government’s warnings to avoid wadis during rains, echoing the fragility of life amidst nature’s fury.

Elsewhere, search and rescue operations continue for a missing person in Jabal Al Akhdar. Prompt action rescued all 12 individuals stranded in two vehicles in a wadi in South Sharqiyah. Similarly, rescue teams in North Sharqiyah and Al Dakhiliyah Governorate successfully rescued individuals stranded in wadis.

The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) dealt with nearly 450 emergency cases, including road accidents, stranded individuals, fire incidents, medical emergencies, and miscellaneous incidents. , highlighting the ongoing challenges faced during adverse weather conditions from Sunday to Wednesday.
