Ban on catch of kingfish in Oman starts from this month

Muscat: A two-month ban on the catch of kingfish in the Sultanate waters during the fish’s reproduction season in 2016 will start from August 15 and continue up to October 15, 2016.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries issued this decision to maintain stocks of kingfish, regularise the fishing operation, avoid depletion of kingfish stocks and reducing pressure on catching them to ensure balance between stocks and caught quantities in the Sultanate.
At the same time, the Fisheries Licenses and Control Department at the Directorate General for Fisheries Development will intensify its watch on the coastal governorate during the two-month ban.
