Muscat: On the occasion of the Victory Day of Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Social Club Oman organised ‘Gulf Exchange Gold Cup Football Tournament 2024-2025’.
Sixteen teams from different regions of Oman participated in the football tournament this year at the Muscat Club Stadium in Wadi Kabir.
Last year, eight teams took part in the event. This is the biggest sports event of Bangladeshi community in Oman.
Councillor Mohammad Rafiul Islam of Bangladesh Embassy, Muscat inaugurated the tournament on 2 November while CEO of Gulf Overseas Exchange, Iftakher Chowdhury was the Guest of Honour.
The First Secretary of Bangladesh Embassy, Asadul Hoque was the Chief Guest at the final of the tournament. Masud Rana, Operation Manager of Main Sponsor Gulf Overseas Exchange, was also present at the final as a special guest.
The function was presided over by Club Chairman Sirajul Haque CIP and anchored by Club Acting General Secretary Abdur Rahim.
Club Vice President Rezaul Karim CIP , Azimul Hoque Babul CIP, Treasurer Maulana Abdul Salam, Mohd. Shah Jahan, Publicity Secretary Hafez Mohammad Nazim Uddin Chowdhury, Mohsin Sarkar, Ajit Shil, Tawhid, Manik, Jasim were also present. The event was entirely monitored by the sports secretary Sirajul Hoque CIP.
The event was also attended by prominent people of the community namely Nur Hossain Talukder, Mostafa Kamal, Shahabuddin CIP, Abdul Matin, Gulf Exchange officials and many renowned community leaders & VIPs.
The tournament concluded on 20 December 2024, Friday at Muscat Club Stadium in the presence of thousands of football fans. In the final, Hamriya Football Ekados defeated Hajrat Shahjalal FC by one goal in extra time to win the tournament.
A good number of Bangladesh football fans and family members watched the matches.
