Muscat: Organised by Sultan Qaboos University, the 10th Sports Tournament of GCC Universities and Higher Education Institutions starts on Monday under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth.
To be held between 18—24 January 2025, the tournament aims to enhance brotherhood and strengthen cooperation in sports and cultural fields between the students of universities and higher education institutions in the GCC.
The opening ceremony include: speech of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council, folkloric performance, medley, entrance of the participating teams, and a film titled ‘Our Gulf, Our Legacy.’
In the tournament, students will compete in different games, including athletics, swimming, football, basketball (3 × 3), volleyball, badminton, and table tennis. Competitions will be held in different stadiums, such as Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, Seeb Sports Stadium, and the Military Technological College.
The tournament is an opportunity to develop sports talent and promote academic and sports cooperation between the GCC universities and higher education institutions.
Sultan Qaboos University confirms the importance of this initiative in bringing efforts together and building a promising sports generation that can represent their countries on international occasions.
The tournament slogan ‘Our Gulf, Our Legacy’ refers to the deep meanings this edition expresses, combining fair competition and the sense of brotherhood.
Through this event, the university seeks to enhance belonging to the nation, providing an opportunity for students to promote their institutions in sports, and enhancing brotherly relations and exchanging experiences.
