Indian School Salalah celebrates India’s 70th Independence Day

Salalah: Indian School Salalah (ISS) celebrated India’s 70th Independence Day on the school premises to pay tribute and remember all the freedom fighters who contributed a lot and fought for the independence of India.
The celebration began with a prayer song seeking the blessing of the Almighty, which was followed by a welcome address delivered by Saman of Class 8.
Chief guests C. M. Najeeb and his wife were welcomed with a bouquet of flowers. S. Ram Santhanam, the president of the School Management Committee (SMC), esteemed members of the SMC, parent task force members, former members of SMC, Manpreet Singh, chairman, Indian Social Club, and the executive members of the Indian Social Club graced the occasion with their presence.
Chief guest Najeeb, the vice chairman, Board of Directors of Indian Schools in Oman and director in-charge of Indian School Salalah, and Santhanam were escorted by Principal T.R. Brown to hoist the National Flag in the KG Block ground, which was followed by the singing of the National Anthem.
A salute of honour was delivered by the scouts and guides unit of Indian School Salalah.
This filled the heart of everyone with true patriotic spirit and pride. The choir group of Class 8 filled the air with their melodious and powerful singing, which drenched every in the colours of patriotism. The students of the primary section performed an enthralling mime, giving the message of brotherhood and peace.
Sara Shahab of Class 8 and Pavitra Manoj, along with Sandrine Sara, delivered their speeches in Hindi and in English respectively, on the auspicious occasion. In their speeches, they glorified India and paid tribute to the freedom fighters and emphasised on peace and harmony among the nations and within the country.
The entertainment segment included songs and skits performed by the primary and middle school students. Patriotic songs and skits based on the importance of unity among people were well received and appreciated. The students danced to patriotic songs, making the day vibrant.
Awards were also given away to the students who excelled in the SAI group inter-school poster and essay competition by the chief guest. ISS was the venue in the Dhofar region for organising the SAI poster and essay competition and Principal Brown was honoured with a memento for organising the event.
Chris Anto of Class 10 bagged the Global Energy award for the Oman chapter on the project entitled “Heal the World” started by the Energy Globe Foundation and was honoured by the
chief guest with the award.
The Energy Globe Foundation also awarded ISS with a certificate of appreciation for creating good environmental awareness and Principal Brown was awarded a certificate of appreciation by the chief guest.
